3. Damage in a notched specimenThe purpose of the present mini-project is first to compare the performance of explicit and implicit local integrations for constitutive equations, and to demonstrate that, depending on the type of predominant critical variable in the damage model (namely von Mises equivalent stress or the trace), the crack initiation in a notched specimen submitted to a creep loading can be observed at the notch root, or in the center of the specimen. |

4. Billet UpsettingThe purpose of this mini-project is to check the performance of an implicit algorithm in time dependent and time independent plasticity, by simulating the classical billet upsetting test proposed by Taylor (large deformation test). |

5. Indentation of a coated surfaceA rigid sphere and a coated half space are considered. The coating behaviour is elasto-plastic with a nonlinear kinematic hardening. We propose an analysis of the maximum and residual stresses in the half space during the indentation test, and the characterisation of the global loadd-isplacement curves. |

6. Single crystal tubeMacroscopic yield loci derived from crystal plasticity cannot be reduced to a classical macroscopic model expressed by means of invariants. The purpose of this mini-project is to illustrate this fact, by using a single crystal tube loaded in torsion, tension, and combined torsion-tension. |

7. SiC-titanium compositeThe aim of this project is to find the equivalent properties of a SiC-Titanium composite material. Two solutions are investigated, a periodic arrangement according to an hexagonal structure and a random media modelling. Two types of mechanical behavior are considered for the matrix, isotropic elasticity and elasto-plasticity without hardening. |

8. Cylinder headCylinder heads are critical parts in car engine, specially in the new engine generations, where temperature increases to improve the efficiency of the combustion. Car manufacturers use to manipulate large 3D models in order to optimize the geometry of the components. A simplified 2D model is introduced in this case study to investigate the influence of the material behaviour on the stress and strain fields, and on life prediction results. |
